Favorite “Skinny” Blogs

September 26, 2016 | 8 Comments

Food can be so many things.  For me, it goes beyond nourishment.  It is comfort on a cold day, celebration on a good day, and everything in between.

That means that I’ve had to be creative in preparing some foods, as they aren’t all healthy versions of my favorites.  I’ve used Pinterest to find healthier, “skinnier” recipes that still taste great – and wanted to share them with you!

love-to-eat

Skinnytaste: I mostly follow the recipes on Pinterest, and everything I’ve made is so delicious, I can’t tell it’s a healthier version!

Skinny Kitchen:  Again, I find these recipes on Pinterest.  Each recipe includes Weight Watchers information if you are following that program.  There are so many great recipes to try!

Dash of Herbs: I’ve “known” Kristyn in the blog world for awhile, and I just love her recipes.  They are also Weight Watchers friendly, and if you sign up, she’ll send you weekly menu ideas!  Also, if you have a recipe that could be lightened up, she is great at finding new ways to enjoy your favorite foods.

The Skinny Fork: Again, everything has been so delicious.  I love following on Pinterest to find new versions of my favorites.

Are there food blogs you follow that I should know about?  I’m always looking for new ways to feed my family healthy foods!

A Reintroduction

May 11, 2016 | 29 Comments

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.  Right?  It certainly did for me.  I’ve been reading posts I missed, catching up on social media, and throwing myself back in to blogging.  One thing that was consistent for me as I was absent was that I missed blogging and connecting with all of you.  I also have noticed a few new faces around here.

Hi New Followers!  I’m glad you are here!

Some of my favorite bloggers and I thought it would be fun to reintroduce ourselves and each other in a fun Q+A post!

reintroduction

First, a few random facts about me:

Where was the last place you traveled to?

Two weeks ago I went to St. Louis – my sister has lived there for the last fifteen years but just moved to North Carolina, so we all went to say goodbye to St. Louis!  We ate at our favorite restaurants, went shopping and caught a Cardinals game.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are three materialistic things you’d want with you?

A camera with unlimited memory, chapstick and a Kindle preloaded with hundreds of books.  (too much?)

When was the last time you tried something new, and what was it?

Last weekend, I ate a “red hot”, which is apparently common in Texas?  It was sort of like a spicy hot dog/brat.  (Just ok, but don’t tell any Texans that!)

If you knew you could not fail, what is the one thing you would do tomorrow?

I would open my own store.  Think “Etsy in a store” – it would have gifts, household items, basically everything cute that everyone wants to have.

What is your earliest memory?

I remember being about three and having picnics at the park.  There was one of those dome-shaped jungle gyms, and my sister and I would climb on top while my Dad tried to grab us.  Hours of fun!

If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

100% it would be pizza.  #pizzaforlife

Do you like your first name and why? If not, what would you change it to?

I do!  I like that it’s a common name with an uncommon way of spelling it.  Although that was torture when I was younger and couldn’t buy anything with my name on it!

If you could give yourself one gift, what would it be?

The gift of more patience.  Oh, how I wish that was a real thing!  I think my girls would appreciate that as well.

Would you rather be the person asking the questions in a conversation or the person answering them?

It really depends.  Sometimes I love talking about myself (who doesn’t?) and other times, I am so fascinated by the person I’m with that I want to know as much as possible about them.

If you had to live in a place where only one season existed year-round, what would that season be?

Before moving to Texas, I would tell you summer.  But, summer here is worse than anything I can imagine, so I’d go with Spring.  Spring here feels like my normal Summer, if that makes sense!

If money was no object, what would you do all day?

I’d do what I’m doing now – volunteering, being a stay at home mom, and blogging.

And now, I want to introduce you to some of my friends in the blogging world.  Be sure to click on their links to learn more about each of these fabulous ladies!

CASSIE: Sage

Would you rather be the person asking the questions in a conversation or the person answering them? I’m a complete introvert and have been told that I don’t talk about myself very often, so I guess that implies I would rather be the person asking the questions in a conversation.

ANNE: Love the Here and Now

If you could give yourself one gift, what would it be?  Without fail, it would be self-confidence.  I constantly second guess decisions and choices and don’t attempt new things because of a fear of failing or judgement.  Truth be told, I could fail and be judged and I would be ok.  Self-confidence would give me the edge I need not to care about those things and would enable to me to live free of doubt, fear, and feelings of inadequacy.

Where was the last place you traveled to? San Francisco! In February I took a long weekend to visit my BFF from middle school, and meet her new baby. It was my first time on the west coast and I fell in love! San Francisco is so different from NYC and London (both cities I lived in for a while) but it’s an awesome city in its own right. And the FOOD….I will definitely be back!

If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? I would totally be cool with eating pizza for the rest of my life. You can switch up the toppings and essentially have something different each day. Plus you still get all of the food groups!

EMELIA: Dream Big and Buy the Shoes

If you knew you could not fail, what is the one thing you would do tomorrow? I’ve always had the dream to be a wedding planner, but I would love to work with all types of events. I have a love of details and creating beautiful memories, so I would give it all to be an Event Planner and have the opportunity to make special moments for other people.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are three materialistic things you’d want with you? A notebook, pen, and Sun-In. (Obviously.)

 CHRISTINE: Christine Everyday

If you knew you could not fail, what is the one thing you would do tomorrow? I would go skydiving! That’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and if I knew for sure that I wouldn’t crash-land, I’d totally sign up.

KELLY: Southern Komfort Blog

If you could give yourself one gift, what would it be? I would have to say the gift to be able to travel (no worries about money, who would take of the pups, boring adult things). I would love to travel all around the nation and the world, just meeting people and doing life with them.

LINDSAY: Bourbon Lipstick & Stilettos

If you knew you could not fail, what is the one thing you would do tomorrow? I would do web development/design. It is a dream of mine, but I’m struggling to find time to study and perfect it!

Two Years Ago (+Giveaway)

March 14, 2016 | 68 Comments

March, 2014.  I had an almost one year old in addition to my almost four year old.  I was working, maintaining a home, thinking about what would make me happy.  I was losing myself in “mom” and “homemaker” and “wife”.  Who was I?  What could I do that made me happy, all while not taking me away from those roles too much?  What emerged from that time was this, All the Joys.

This month is my blogiversary and I’ve been reflecting a lot on this little space of mine.  Two years ago I created a blog and jumped in.  I had no idea what things like blog design, coding, SEO or link ups were.  To be honest, most of those things I still don’t know!  I didn’t know how to use Twitter, or that Pinterest would become more than just my favorite way to pass the time.

What I did know is that I quickly met people that are a part of an awesome community, and I fell in love with blogging.  I thrive on sharing my favorite moments, highlights of my days and products that help me get through them.  Two years have passed, and as I blow out the candles on my pretend blogiversary cake, I wish that there are many more to come.

I thought it would be to take a look down memory lane – so here are my top 10 posts, of all two years time!

DIY Blog Photos

February 18, 2016 | 28 Comments

I don’t know about you, but photography and graphic design is something I am still working on.  Sure, I know how to download free stock photos, take them to PicMonkey and add some text, but taking my own stock photos?  Or designing my own?  I love to create and make things but this is just one craft that I haven’t gotten the hang of yet.  Lucky for me, I have found a way to design my own blog photos that is ridiculously easy and inexpensive – the best kind of DIY!

DIY Blog Photos

While browsing Hobby Lobby the other day (which, by the way, has become a normal in my life and it needs to stop!), I found myself in my the scrapbooking aisles.  I have been scrapbooking since before it was a thing – seriously, in high school there was at home parties (think Tupperware or jewelry parties) and that was the only way you could buy supplies!  So, as it wasn’t unusual to be browsing the beautiful stickers and paper, what popped in my mind was a new way to use them.

I ended up buying quite a few pages just for the fact that I liked them.  The design, colors, overall look – I wasn’t pairing anything or envisioning them for a scrapbook page – I was seeing them as photo backgrounds.

Instead of using my wood floors (pictured above), or the usual fuzzy white blanket, I now have hundreds of different backgrounds right in my craft closet!  I can pick any background and add objects depending on how I’m using the photo.  Then I take a simple photo (with my phone!) and head over to PicMonkey to add text.  Voila!  I have my own stock photos to use for the blog.

You might recognize this photo that I used for a post about my favorite oils to diffuse:

I would still like to work on photography and possibly graphic design in the future, but for now, this has proved to be a ridiculously easy and cheap way to make DIY blog photos!  And as a bonus, when I’m ready for new backgrounds, this paper can be added to my supply to be used in a scrapbook!

How do you make your blog photos?  Any other great tips and tricks to doing it on your own?

Friday Faves + A New Blog!

September 11, 2015 | Leave a Comment

We made it through the week – and actually, this one seemed to fly by.  Maybe it was because of Labor Day?  Regardless, I’m not complaining because by now you should know that the weekend is my favorite part of the week.  But really, does anyone not like the weekend?  I didn’t think so.
With my revamp of Blogger Love, I’ve started to realize how many of my daily routines include products and things that I love using.  Here are just a few from this week:
Symphony Bars.  I used to work at a pharmacy in high school, and this was the only chocolate they had.  I ate a lot of them, and forgot how delicious they were until recently.  On a whim I picked one up and devoured every last bite!
Yes to Grapefruit Cleansing wipes.  I keep these in my bedside table for when I forget (or am too lazy) to actually wash my face.
Peach Green Tea Lemonade from Starbucks.  So sad that they have deemed it “fall”, and I cannot get this anymore.  Until next summer Starbucks!
Favorite Quote.  If this one doesn’t sum up my current life, I don’t know what does:

Favorite New Blog: Beauty in the Mess, written by Megan.  Megan has lived in many areas (most fascinating – Mexico!) and writes about “the little things”, her adventures with her husband, and has the cutest pug!  Fun fact – it’s also her birthday today!!  You can follow along here: Bloglovin’ || Instagram || Twitter
