Beauty Empties – Summer 2016

September 19, 2016 | 16 Comments

I am willing to bet that most of us currently have or have tried a beauty subscription box.  Birchbox, Ipsy, Target Beauty Box, Sephora Play (still waiting for that one!).  There are so many, and they are so fun – it’s my favorite way to try new products.

I have so many sample products (and some full size!), that I decided to start this series to keep me on track of using them all.  Beauty Empties is a quarterly series, and will always include honest reviews.  Most of the reviewed items are from subscription boxes.  Others were purchased.

Over the summer, I organized my samples and products in to these categories: Eyes (shadows, mascara, etc.), Face (cover up, blush, foundation, face wash, etc.), Body (lotions, shampoo/conditioner, body wash etc.) and Lip (self explanatory?).

Here are the items I used this past quarter:

Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara: I have incredibly sensitive eyes and mascara often irritates them.  Lindsay suggest Neutrogena products and this mascara does not disappoint.  It’s great with my sensitive eyes but also gives a good amount of volume.

Cover Girl Perfect Point Eyeliner, in Black:  I only use a pencil on my lower lids (liquid on the top).  This is easy to apply, and although it doesn’t last all day, I will buy it again for the price.

Hello Adult Flouride Whitening Toothpaste: I bought this on a whim in Target one day (who hasn’t done that?!).  I tried it once, threw it in my “empties” box and never looked back.  I like that it is safer for you, but the taste was awful in my opinion and I felt like my teeth weren’t as clean as when I use a traditional toothpaste.

Rodan & Fields Redefine Toner: I was first introduced to R&F a few years ago because my sister’s friend started selling it.  I do love the products and haven’t found something similar, but I don’t love the prices.  Anyone have a product that’s similar in function but not in price?

Yon-Ka Facial Cleanser: I absolutely loved this cleanser.  It had a fresh scent and was so gentle.  I used it in the shower daily and it left my face feeling clean and soft.

Josie Maran Cheek Gelee: I love everything Josie Maran.  This cheek color seems really bright but goes on as a great, natural color.  It lasts almost all day too.  I have already bought more!

What beauty products are your go-to’s?  I’m always up for trying new things!

Beauty Empties – Spring 2016

May 17, 2016 | 14 Comments

Welcome to a new series on All the Joys – Beauty Empties.  Now, let me be clear – I am not a beauty expert, and this is far from a beauty blog.  But besides reading blogs to connect with people, I also read to find new products, specifically, beauty products.  I have a plethora of samples and am making my way through them.  Before throwing out the empties, I’ve decided to share them with you – along with my real, honest opinions.

I plan to hang on to all of my empties and share them here each season.  First up, let’s see what I used up this Spring!  You will see makeup, beauty items, personal care items and everything in between.  Basically, if you can use it on your face, hair or body, you will find it here!

Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel Shampoo – Here is a disturbing truth about schools/daycares/anywhere kids are.  There’s lice there too.  After a few scares in E’s class (luckily not on her head), we now use this preventative shampoo, conditioner and daily spray.  It’s made with all natural ingredients, and I love the way it smells.  (essential oils for the win!)

Young Living Satin Face Scrub, Mint – I added this to my monthly order on a whim and am in love with it.  It’s exfoliating and smells great.  It left my skin buttery soft.  I used it in the shower and can’t wait to get more.

Pacifica Ultra CC Cream – I used this until the last drop.  I loved how light it was and included SPF.  I’ve began using something with a bit more coverage, so this one hasn’t been replaced yet.

Pacifica Sea Foam Cleanser – I really like this brand, and this cleanser smells just like vacation on the beach.  I used this in the shower as well and loved how it didn’t leave my skin greasy.

And that concludes the first entry in this new series!  Have you tried any of these products?
